For as long as humans have recorded their history, there has been a desire to know what the future might hold. This desire has always been accompanied by the belief that, humans can predict the future. The ancient Chinese threw their sticks, the ancient Greeks spoke to Oracles, Roman Emperors had their Augers to prognosticate, Holymen from all faiths occasionally divine future events, and today, we have meteorologists and economists. In keeping with this age old human trait, we have designed this website to examine and better understand this untapped human potential.
Today, the ability to predict the future is referred to as ‘ precognition’. Traditional studies into this human attribute centered around the assumption that there are ‘gifted’ individuals, who possess the ability to predict the future as a unique talent. While we would encourage any ‘gifted’ individuals to participate in our project, we would like to broaden our investigation to include as many people as possible. We believe that the potential for precognition exists in us all. Everyone experiences moments when they become aware of what will happen next, and then it does. People generally regard these events as coincidence, and soon forget about them. The Soothsay Survey website is a place where predictions can be stored and then compared with events in the future.
People have used many things to help them see beyond the veil of time. They have used Tarot Cards, Zodiacs, the stars, tea leaves, the weather, contacting spirits, animal behavior, or any of a number of their neighbor’s body parts. We have selected two instruments to help us explore the future. The first of these is the Survey itself. It was designed to take a measure of events which cross almost everyone’s consciousness. The second is the Internet, where a broad range of individuals can contribute their predictions. Together, we hope to use these elements to better understand the human potential known as precognition.
The website currently has two primary functions. First, it is designed to be entertaining. Colorful artwork and thoughtful speculation are combined to create a place, where you can exercise your imagination and enjoy some dreams of the future. The second function is that of a research devise. Predictions gathered by the Survey are examined for accuracy, and, evidence is gathered in support of the human potential known as precognition. It is hoped that these functions will yield public support, and, a greater understanding of the human potential for predicting the future will result.
