        About the Company      


Hal Doran has worked in media for over 25 years in both the public and private sectors.

He spent some 15 years with CBC Radio in a variety of locations, including Winnipeg, Sydney, Ottawa and Toronto, working for both regional and network programs. This included posts as senior producer of the network programs As It Happens and Morningside. In addition to news and current affairs, Hal was involved with music and drama production.

As Executive Producer, Radio, at CBC Cape Breton, he was responsible for supervising a staff of producers, announcers, reporters and technicians as well as for managing nine separate programming budgets.

During his time at CBC, Hal provided ongoing training to both on-air personnel and production staff. Hal is a graduate of the CBC's Train the Trainer for Production course, as well as its Radio Drama and Computer Training courses.

Since leaving the CBC, Hal worked as a self-employed consultant, trainer, producer and writer until 2005, when he joined the Department of National Defence as a term Information Services employee.

He worked as a senior media relations consultant with Elections Canada for several years and has also done media relations work for the University of Ottawa

He has also worked for several years as a consultant on educational development projects involving Polish Public Broadcasting, Bosnian Television and Thai Educational Television. This involved organizing over a dozen study tours in Canada of two to four week duration which were supported by dozens of Canadian broadcast outlets as well as several Canadian colleges and broadcast organizations.

He has produced documentary segments >for CPAC and has also produced a variety of event Webcasts for Sussex Place Inc, both in Canada and overseas (For example, The 3rd World Water Forum in Kyoto and World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva for IDRC.)

He has provide Internet training for a wide variety of clients and has taught at Algonquin College (radio formats, screenwriting and business English), as well as at the University of Ottawa's Communications Department.

He wrote a regular column about radio for the Ottawa Citizen for several years and has also written for various high-tech and broadcasting magazines. Hal has also worked as a writer for Marketing and Communications Services at the University of Ottawa.

Hal has also been a reporter and newscaster for CFRA Radio in Ottawa, and was News and Current Affairs director at CJUM-FM in Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, he was also a music reviewer and feature writer for the Free Press and general manager of the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Hal is a member of the Canadian Association of Journalists, is Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Radio Producers' Education Trust Fund and a former two-term national president of the National Radio Producers' Association.
