Paul Gross’s latest project is H2O, a gripping two-part political thriller co-written by him.
The plot begins when the Prime Minister of Canada dies in a canoe accident and his son, played by
Gross, takes over as Canada’s new Prime Minister. It airs on CBC Television on Sunday, October 31,
at 8 p.m. and concludes Monday, November 1.
While researching the script and during filming in Ottawa earlier this year, Paul learned a lot about
our federal political process and how the media cover it. He'll share those insights with CAJ members
and guests at this special event, as well as other views of Canada's national cultural scene.
Paul is internationally known for his role as Constable Benton Fraser on the multi award-winning internationally broadcast drama series Due South, which earned him a Gemini Award for Best Actor in 1995 and 1996.
In 2000, Paul wrote, directed and starred in the feature film Men with Brooms, which was the highest grossing English speaking Canadian film of the past twenty years
Trained in drama at the University of Alberta, Paul values writing as much as acting. He received his first award for playwriting in 1982. His scripts, usually based on real-life situations, have won Gemini awards and have been brought to the screen by such first-rank directors as Atom Egoyan. As well, Paul has been a playwright-in-residence at the Stratford Festival, the National Arts Centre and the Grand Theatre Company in London, Ontario.
His many acting credits also include starring roles in the television movies Getting Married in Buffalo Jump, Cold Comfort and Chasing Rainbows, as well as such feature films as Paint Cans, Whale Music and Married To It.
On stage, Gross performed the title role in the Stratford Festival's 2000 production of Hamlet to record-setting audiences. He also received a 1985 Dora Award nomination for his performance as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet.
